The Medieval Central Europe Research Network (MECERN) is a community of scholars interested in exploring the history of Central Europe in the period between c.600 and c.1600 CE. MECERN’s goal is to encourage the study of all aspects of the region’s past, from literature and language to archaeology and from political, social, economic, and cultural history to the built and natural environment.
Founded at CEU in Budapest in 2014, MECERN aims to promote engagement with the region’s history by connecting people and initiatives, and by providing platforms for presenting new research findings. We encourage scholarly networking through our biannual conferences, regularly published podcasts, monthly online book launches, and our website. We warmly welcome scholars at all stages of their careers and from all parts of the world to join our network.
